Born in Somerset, the daughter of the late Joseph and Christina (Estrella) Pires, she was a lifelong Somerset resident. Mrs. Nogueira was a proud server at the former Somerset Lodge for many years, and was known affectionately to all as “Auntie Sarah”. She made many friends along the way and crossed our paths. She loved to reminisce about the good old days and spoke fondly about serving as a waitress in her early years at Magoni’s Ferry Landing also in Somerset.
Sarah enjoyed her work, enjoyed her life and being with her family. Family was very important to her and her life was filled with love. She is survived by her two sisters Meryl Pires of Arizona and Geraldine Charves of Somerset. She had six nieces and two nephews whom she held near and dear to her heart. Christine Charves Corey, Lisa Charves, Sarah Harper and Georgi Charves from Somerset, Caroline Peery of New Jersey, Geraldine Cooper from Arizona, Joseph Bednarik from Somerset and David Bednarik from Swansea. Her family eventually extended from there as to she was able to enjoy her Great Aunt role to 27 more children. She was able to see 6 generations in her lifetime. Auntie Sarah replied in her last days and hours- to pass along a message. It was that she did not want tears, she wanted to be remembered that she lived a good long life and to let everyone know they were loved by her. She was comforted by that and wanted others to be comforted in that fact as well, as she passed peacefully. Sarah will be missed.
Her visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 9AM to 10:30AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Rose E. Sullivan 866 County St., Somerset, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11AM in St. Patrick’s Church 306 South St., Somerset. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
