William H. Barrar Jr., age 83, Somerset died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of Patricia C. (McDonald) Barrar to whom he had been married for 58 years.
Born in Fitchburg, MA the son of the late William H. Barrar Sr. and the late Marion G. (Cashman) Barrar he has been a resident of Somerset for 66 years and enjoyed summers in West Yarmouth. He was a graduate of Somerset High School class of 1944 and Bridgewater State Teaching College.
Mr. Barrar was an Educator in Somerset High School for 37 years having taught History for 20 years and finished his career in the Guidance Department until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, a founding member of the Somerset Chapter of the Citizen Scholarship Foundation and a communicant of St. Thomas More Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four children William H. Barrar III and His wife Karen of Swansea, Atty. Jeffrey D. Barrar of Vancouver, WA, Peter M. Barrar and his wife Claire of Somerset and Mary Lib Kineavy and her husband John of Somerset; eleven grandchildren William, Erin, Riley, Scott, David, Kathryn, Elise and Bethany Barrar and John, Lara and Kate Kineavy; a brother Richard Barrar of Virginia and a sister Janet Lussier of Holyoke, MA and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be held Monday, May 24, 2010 at 9am in St. Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Avenue, Somerset. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8pm in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT ROSE E. SULLIVAN, 866 County Street, Somerset. Burial will be private.
