Agnes Mary Fernandes, age 99, of Dartmouth passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024 in the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home with her loving family at her bedside. Agnes loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her family was everything to her. She enjoyed people and was loved by all who knew her. She was a devout Catholic and a devoted wife who cared for her ailing husband for many years. She loved visitors, family gatherings (large and small) and spending time with her many loving cousins. She liked to travel and particularly enjoyed when her husband took her to Belgium to meet his war family. They also had many trips with lifelong friends and family members to Hawaii, California, Delaware, DC and Florida. When their children were young, they loved their years of summer vacations in New Hampshire, New York and Vermont, with the family's lifelong friends, the Thibodeaus. Agnes enjoyed keeping everyone fed, playing cards, crocheting and spending hours perusing through her many lifelong photo albums.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Howland and her husband Waldo of Dartmouth, Cecelia Fernandes of New Bedford, David Fernandes of Dartmouth, Donald Fernandes of New Bedford, Richard Fernandes of Dartmouth, and Christopher Fernandes and his partner Deborah of Dartmouth; a brother, Joseph Mendoza of Hemet, California; ten grandchildren; Joshua, Timothy and Alex Howland, Ross, Nathan, Joseph, Jamison, David and Devon Fernandes, and Jessica Souza; sixteen great-grandchildren; Layla, Roscoe, Harry, Sonya, Margo, Wyatt, Gabriella, Russell, Emma, Lily, Julian, Elayna, Tyler, Troy, Kylee and Rachel and several nieces and nephews.
