Audrey Quail, age 60, of New Bedford passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on October 11, 2011 surrounded by her family and friends. Throughout her battle, she was supported by her family and many dear friends
A life-long resident of New Bedford, MA she was the daughter of Mary Quail and the late Hugh Quail. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Kinyon Campbell Business School. Audrey worked for the Town of Dartmouth for over 35 years as Secretary for Planning Board and, most recently, as Administrative Assistant and Computer Coordinator for the Dartmouth Library. She also served as President of the Dartmouth Town Employee Association.
Audrey’s love of music led her to affiliations with many musical organizations. In years past, she was a member of the South Coast Chorale; a Board Member, Secretary and Writer of Program Notes for the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra; and a member of the New Bedford Choral Society where she also served as a Board Member. More recently, she was a member of the Concord Chorus and Berkshire Choral Festival.
Her involvement with these affiliations afforded Audrey many unique musical opportunities. She was invited to sing with the Saratoga Festival Chorus under the direction of Andrea Goodman in New York. She sang Verdi Requiem with the Harvard Women’s Chorus. As a member of the Concord Chorus, she sang Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis in Boston’s Symphony Hall and, as a member of the New Bedford Choral Society in collaboration with the New Bedford Symphony, she had the opportunity to sing in the performances of The Mozart Requiem, Beethoven 9, Elijah and the German Requiem.
Deeply religious, Audrey was a member of Sacred Heart Church in New Bedford and St. Jacques Parish in Taunton where she sang for many years as a member of the choir.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Quail (Enos), of New Bedford; a brother, Hugh Quail of Georgia; a sister in-law Judy Lemay of New Bedford; two nieces, Patricia Quail of New Bedford and Maureen Quail of Dartmouth; grandnieces and grandnephews, Andrew Quail of New Bedford and Heather Macfadyen, Casey Levesque and Madison Levesque all of Dartmouth; an uncle, Joseph Ignacio of Dartmouth; and many cousins. She is also survived by her loving and caring group of friends who stood by her throughout her life and courageously supported her through her illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday, October 20, 2011 from 4-8pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth.
