Donald A. Mello

Donald Mello, 77, of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Hathaway Manor following a long illness. He was the husband of Joan C. (Samon) Mello with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Carlos and Deolinda (Soares) Mello, he grew up in Dartmouth and had resided in New Bedford for the past 50 years.

Mr. Mello was a graduate of Stockbridge School of Agriculture at U-Mass.

He was a longtime business owner in the New Bedford area.

Don enjoyed quiet time on the water while fishing. He was an avid sports fan and enthusiastically attended his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Mark Mello and wife Carol, Lisa Melo and husband Paul, Kevin Mello and wife Amy and Janis Gonsalves and husband Danny; his siblings, Lorraine Oliver, Raymond Mello and wife Kathy and Diane Mello; ten grandchildren, Nathan, Ashley, Kathryn-Rose, Matthew, Abigail, Victoria, Noah, Isaiah, Emma and Madison; two great grandchildren, Aiden and Eli; and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Eileen Nelson.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 10 AM - 12 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth.
