Izabel Luizinho

Izabel Botelho (Silva) Luizinho, 89, of Dartmouth, was taken peacefully through God’s grace on Monday, May 4, 2020 when she succumbed to COVID-19. She was the wife of the late Antonio A. Luizinho, Jr.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Antonio R. Silva and Maria da Luz (Lima) Silva, she had resided in Dartmouth since 1935. She was a graduate of Dartmouth High School.

Mrs. Luizinho began her career at third District Court in the small claims department. She was then appointed as private secretary for the judge’s lobby, a position she held until her retirement. She previously had been a saleswoman for the former Gulf Hill Dairy.

She was a founding member of St. Julie Billiart Parish in North Dartmouth for 51 years.

Izabel enjoyed sewing, growing strawberries and was always interested in homeopathic remedies and nutrition. She was known for her delicious homemade malassadas.

We thank God for you…For the love you gave, the wisdom you shared, and all the ways you blessed our lives with your beautiful heart. You taught us so much about life and how to live it just by being yourself. We love you for all that you were.

She is survived by her daughter, Isabel M. Medeiros and her husband Joseph of Dartmouth; her son, Antonio “Tony” A. Luizinho, III of Berkley; her sisters, Lenore Gonsalves of Westport and Margaret Wilkinson of E. Freetown; two grandchildren, Stephen J. Medeiros and his wife Susan of Dartmouth and Melissa M. Desrosiers and her husband Matthew of New Bedford; four great grandchildren, Tyler and Nathan Medeiros, Avery and Ayden Desrosiers; several godchildren, nieces, nephews, dear cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mary Douglas, Antone L. Silva and Maria de Carmo Silva.

Her Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Visiting Nurse Association, Supportive Services-Hospice & Palliative Care, Southcoast Health, 200 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
