

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Peter Bullard. Joan is survived by her children, Deborah Page Bullard Hodge (Dennis), Peter Bullard Jr. (Dana), Stephen Greenleaf Bullard, and Ellie Knowles Bullard Hurd (Chawner). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Ben Hurd, Woody Hurd, Peter Hurd, Morgan Palmer, Peter Bullard III, Matthew Bullard, Stephanie Barbaretta, Ben Harper, Lyndsay Thurston, and Anna Roberts along with great-grandchildren, Wilder Bullard, Penny Bullard, Ezabella Barbaretta, and Lorna Palmer all of whom will carry her memory forward.
Joan was a lifelong resident of Dartmouth, where she built a life centered around family, community, and enduring friendships. She was known for her warmth, steady presence, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. Whether gathered around the table, celebrating holidays, or simply sharing conversation, Joan created a home filled with comfort and connection.
She found joy in life’s everyday moments spent with loved ones, tending to her gardens, scrapbooking, knitting, and caring for her birds. Joan was deeply connected to her community and generously gave her time to organizations including the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust, the Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum, and The Garden Club of Buzzards Bay. She also made history as the first woman president of Nonquitt, a role she carried with pride and dedication.
Joan will be remembered for her quiet grace, her resilience, and the genuine love she showed to others.
A private service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust.
