Born in New Bedford son of the late John” Scotty” Paiva II and the late Mary ( Medeiros) Paiva, he had been a lifelong New Bedford resident. Mr. Paiva was a Scalloper and a Commercial Fisherman for 35 years retiring in 1993.
He was a veteran having served in Marines during the Korean War.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and granddaughter.

A son: John Paiva, IV and his wife Crystal of North Dartmouth
A daughter: Lynn Paiva Salas and her husband Fred of New Bedford
A granddaughter: Brooke Taylor Paiva of Dartmouth
He is also survived by several brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews
Funeral Service Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 7pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute, Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth. Visiting hours Wednesday prior to his service from 4 to 7pm. Relatives and friends invited. Burial will be private.
