Born in Racine, Wisconsin, Peg was the beloved daughter of the late Samuel P. Myers and Margaret (Caverno) Myers. She was married for 50 years to the love of her life, the late William J. Megowen, whom she met while in college. Together they built a life rooted in family, community, and shared values.
Peg attended Sara Lawrence and Northwestern. She earned a design certificate at the Radcliffe Seminars and worked for more than 20 years as a landscape designer, a career that reflected her
lifelong love of horticulture. An avid gardener, she took great pride in caring for her own gardens and found deep joy in nature. Some of her fondest memories were wandering the fields and orchards of her grandparent's farms in Wisconsin and Missouri.
She was always a lover of nature, walking in the woods, looking and studying as she went. She helped found a garden club in Carlisle and later in life became active with the Garden Club of Buzzards Bay. She was a horticulture judge for the Rhododendron Society and the Garden Club of America. Peg felt her proudest accomplishment as a horticulturalist was her ability to judge.
A strong and determined woman, Peg raised four beautiful children and was known for her social nature and unwavering support of women’s rights. She loved people and cherished the
friendships she formed within her community, especially at Laurelmead Senior Cooperative, where she spent many happy years.
Peg is survived by her children, William “Jacob” Megowen and his wife Alicia of Clearwater, FL, Robert Megowen and his wife Paula of Houghton, MI, and Ann Stevens and her husband John of Ann Arbor, MI; son-in-law P. Michael Jung of Dallas, TX; her grandchildren, Maggie Richey and her husband Tim, Peter Jung, Bailey Megowen, Sam Megowen, and Will Megowen; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Dr.
Gretchen Lee Megowen and sister of the late Judith Myers and Peter Myers.
