Richard “Pat” Sloan passed away peacefully after a short illness on February 3, 2026. Born in Berlin, NH to the late Richard Sloan and Virginia (Smith) Sloan, he grew up in Providence, RI. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1964-1968. While attending Rhode Island College, he was actively involved in political affairs and served as student senate president in 1970. Throughout his life, he remained active in politics and his faith through St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Crystal Lake, IL. Coach Pat also enjoyed being involved in his children’s sports and ran the chess club at St Thomas the Apostle school also in Crystal Lake, IL. Though his passions were art, literature and music, he enjoyed a long career at GE Capital. Toward the end of his life, his pride was in his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter Sophia Sloan, daughter Katie Tavares and her husband Kevin, stepson Tom Harvey, sister-in-law M’liss Sloan, nephews Loren Sloan, Liam Sloan and John Federice and his granddaughters Brooke Sloan, Margaret Sloan, Grace Tavares & Eleanora Tavares. He is predeceased by his wife Roberta Ann Sloan, brother Stephen Sloan and Sister Eunice Federice and son Shawn Sloan.
A memorial visitation will be held at ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA on Saturday, February 28 from 2-4PM.
