Randall Tombo Weeks, 82, of South Dartmouth passed away on July 8, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 9, 1933. He graduated from Tabor Academy and attended Nichols College.
Randy is survived by his wife of 52 years and first love, Francine Gavagan Weeks, his children Martha Weeks Green of Evergreen Colorado and her husband Joel, Randall T. Weeks Jr. of South Dartmouth and his wife Lori, and Nina Weeks Bullard of South Dartmouth. He adored his grandchildren Thomas Weeks, Lyndsey Weeks, Stephanie Bullard, Kenneth Alan Green II, Alison Weeks, Noah Green and Randall T. (Trevor) Weeks III. His brother J. William Weeks resides in Palm Beach, FL. Randy was pre-deceased by his parents Dr. Joshua H. and Marion Tombo Weeks, his sister Diana Berry and his brother Robert Weeks.
Randy was a familiar sight zipping around town in his beloved ’67 Mustang and loved running into friends old and new. His unfailing kindness and generosity of spirit were evident to all who knew him, particularly the many girls who played on the DGLL (now DGAL) “Raiders” whom he led to seven league championships in his 11 years of coaching.
Randy enjoyed researching the Weeks and Slocum genealogy and connected with relatives all over the world. He was delighted when he found the headstone of a distant cousin who died while on a whaling voyage and was buried in Dutch Harbor, AK. Randy was an avid Boston sports fan but his favorite venues were the local playing fields, gyms and rinks where he was the most vocal cheerleader at his grandchildrens’ many games. He was a lifelong golfer and reveled in his Friday golf outings with Nina.
He served his country as an Army medical corpsman during the Korean War after which he co-founded and worked for Dyrelite Corporation until his retirement in 1987. Randy was involved in numerous community and nonprofit organizations including Town Meeting, the Dartmouth Youth Commission, the Jaycees, the New Bedford Assembly Association and the Board of Directors at Hidden Bay. He belonged to the American Legion, Metacomet Sports Car Club and the Thunderbird Club.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4:00-7:00 at the Dartmouth Funeral Home of Waring-Sullivan, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 13 at St. Mary’s Church in South Dartmouth, with burial to follow at South Dartmouth Cemetery.
