

Josephine O'Connell, 93, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, in Framingham, Massachusetts. Born on March 10, 1931, in Somerville, Ma. to Saveria and Pasquale Buonopane, she lived a long and full life spanning over nine decades. Josephine was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Edward. Josephine and Ed met at Somerville High.
Family was the center of Josephine’s life. She never missed the chance to celebrate her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments and host holidays in her loving home. Josephine was a perfectionist and an amazing cook and baker especially known for her ravioli & meatballs and famous pies. After raising their children in New Jersey and the Boston area, Josephine and Ed retired to Cape Cod, enjoying over thirty years there together. In Brewster, like everywhere else she lived, Josephine was an active volunteer in her parish and community. Josephine loved Our Lady of the Cape and was devoted to the Ladies Guild, Martha and Eucharistic Ministries, and the church Thrift Shop. On the Cape Josephine became an accomplished golfer and, for more than a decade, served on the Golf Commission for the Town of Brewster. Josephine enjoyed golf with the 9 Hole Women’s League and served as President of the league. She treasured her golf friendships. Josephine and Ed spent many years as lighthouse keepers, helping to preserve and restore the Race Point Light Station in Provincetown. Josephine and Ed cherished time spent at the Lighthouse with their family.
Josephine is survived by her four children, Joanne (Michael) Richard of Sudbury, Ma., Jim (Nancy) O’Connell of Wellfleet, Ma., Jean Reeves of Florence S.C. and Janice Marinello of Sherborn, Ma. Josephine is also survived by ten adored grandchildren, Scott, Sarah and Andrew Richard, Faith Robichard, Amanda Gordon, Christina Edwards, Jake Reeves, Chloe O’Connell and Anthony and Michael Marinello and six cherished great grandchildren, Skylar, Lana, Thea, Henry, Lucy and Julian and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edward, her beloved grandson Steven Richard, son in laws Tony Marinello and Carl Reeves and her siblings Thomasina, Teresa, Christina and Nicholas.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, located on Route 134 in S. Dennis, Massachusetts. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Cape Parish, 468 Stony Brook Road in Brewster. Burial will take place immediately after the service at Brewster Cemetery on Lower Road.
