Angela P. Murphy

29 April, 19354 May, 2021

Angela P. Murphy 86 of East Dennis, MA passed away peacefully on May 4, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Angela was preceded in eternal rest by her devoted husband of 53 years, James.

Angela is survived by two sons Mark and his wife Shannon, Michael, and his wife Laura, two daughters, Noreen Hrul and her husband Dennis, and Julianne Bonwit and her husband Andrew. Angela was also the loving mother of Daniel who passed away in 2012.

Angela is also survived by her sisters Mary Gallant, Kathleen Charron and Pauline Heanue and her husband Geoffrey. Angela was the loving sister to Michael Stanton of County Galway, Ireland who passed away in 2017. Angela is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Angela cherished being Gran to her 7 grandchildren: Andrew, Tim, Colleen, Ellie, Sam, Bryson and Evangeline. She was known to start massive pillow fights with the grandkids after a morning of cutting the grass and raking piles of leaves with the love of her life. She loved spending time with her grandkids at the beach and could hold her own in digging deep holes and playing in the sand.

Angela was an amazing Irish woman who always put others first. She loved entertaining family and friends and was known to give newcomers to family dinners the biggest baked potato she could find to welcome them into the Murphy clan. Her strength and compassion was as legendary as her homemade scones.

Angela’s Catholic faith never wavered, and her devotion was inspirational. Angela attended Mass daily and said a Rosary in the morning and again at the end of her day. She lived her life following the famous words of Mother Teresa If we pray, we will believe; If we believe, we will love; If we love, we will serve.”

Angela enjoyed her daily walks, reading, baking and frequent trips to the Dollar Store to replenish her greeting card collection so she would always have a card ready to make someone smile. She also loved a good cup of tea with a cinnamon raisin bagel. Irish candy, rum raisin ice cream, hot chocolate and scones were some of her favorite treats. Angela loved the many friends she and James made from Worcester to the Cape, as well as those she kept in touch with back in Ireland. She also loved her wonderful neighbors, who she treated as part of her extended family.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to VNA Hospice, 434 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660 (please make reference to Angela Murphy).

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Cape, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster, MA 02631 at 11AM on Friday, May 7.

There was no one like Angela. She was generous, kind and funny and as good a person as anyone could know. She was our neighbor and friend for almost 20 years here on the Cape. She went ahead with her life with her best friend and husband Jim after their son Dan's death and then went on bravely on her own after Jim's death.
The way Mark, Noreen, Michael and Julianne came together to share in caring for her when she was sick herself is a tribute to the kind of parents they had. Angela was our neighbor but, more importantly, she was our dear friend who we loved and will miss greatly.

Mrs. Murphy was like an auntie to me. She would cook up a bunch of homefries for me anytime Mike asked. She gave in so many ways and one of the most special ways, for me, was through laughter. She often made me cry laughing either while we were together or when I thought about what she did or said later. The world has lost an incredible human being. We love you and will cherish the lasting impressions you have made in our hearts.

Dear Mark, Noreen, Julianne and Michael,

We are so sorry for your loss. Your mother was such a special person! I have so many fond memories of time spent on Richmond Ave. She and your Dad were always so kind and welcoming. Her generosity and baking, especially her loaves of Irish bread, are unmatched. I remember her baking and whipping up big meals like it was nothing. She had the warmest smile and a twinkle in her eye. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Dear Noreen, Julianne, Mike and Mark,

We are so sorry for your loss. Angela was a wonderful woman who was full of life and laughter. We will treasure the memories of being in her company, sharing laughs, and eating her many, many scones! We will miss the little scone lady from the cape - she will be remembered with much fondness and love. Rest in peace Angela.

Homemade scones ... an eye twinkle ... and a gorgeous Irish brogue come to mind when I think of Angela. I will always cherish her kindness and thoughtful wisdom after I lost my husband.

Dear Mark, Noreen, Julianne and Michael,

We were so sorry to learn of Angela's passing. She was one of the greatest people we knew. So kind, funny, loving and good. Trudy and I met your dad and mom across the back fence in West Dennis in 1986 and we spent many happy times together through the years. Your parents were so proud of all of you. All of our kids and grandkids loved your mom and dad too. We send our love and know Angela's gone straight to heaven!

I'm not able to travel much these days, but I will watch her Mass online on Saturday.

God bless Angela and Jim.

Take care of yourselves.
