Catherine, or Katie, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, was born in Worcester, MA and was the daughter of the late John and Irene McGrath. She graduated from the former Worcester High School of Commerce.
Katie was married to Verner F. Richardson, a union carpenter, who built their home in Auburn, MA. She was a devoted and loving mother who helped to instill in her children the importance of being a family. She was always the one to make a family gathering memorable, saying that“We're making Memories” and with these, we would always have something happy to reflect upon.
Katie loved reading, gardening, caring for her pets, and various crafts. She was an advocate for childhood reading and knew how fundamental it was to early education. She strived to become an educator for children and accomplished this goal by receiving her Degree from Worcester State College. She became a librarian at Worcester Central Catholic Elementary School.
Catherine's name was used endearingly by her late husband Verner “Captain Rick” Richardson, on his charter boat the “Catherine L.”. Many memorable fishing trips were had on the “Catherine L.” out of Saquatucket Harbor, Harwichport, MA while she resided in her home on the Cape during the summer.
The family would like to give special thanks to Ernie, Jennifer, Felicia, Sister Betty and all the caregivers from Hospice& Palliative Care of Cape Cod who treated our mother with dignity and helped to comfort her in times of need.
Thanks for the memories Mom! They will always be cherished.
