
She was the daughter of the late Dominic and Julia (Cefalo) Ferrara, sister of the late Michael Ferrara, and beloved wife of the late William F. Deehan with whom she shared 66 years of marriage.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Deehan of Shrewsbury and her sister Laurie Frohock of Yarmouth Port.
Born in Boston, she was raised in Needham. Eleanor was a 1953 graduate of Needham High School and a 1957 graduate of Bridgewater State University. She taught in Michigan and Massachusetts and was a librarian assistant at Babson College. Volunteering gave Eleanor great happiness, in particular with the Hospital Aid Association of the Glover Memorial Hospital in Needham, the WGBH - Channel 2 Auction, Hospice of Cape Cod, and the Yarmouth Port Library. An avid tennis player & golfer, Eleanor enjoyed membership at the Needham Pool and Racquet Club, the Miles Grant Country Club in Stuart, FL, and the Bayberry and Bass River Golf Clubs. She also loved to play Mahjong and was lovingly known as the “Mahjong Maven”.
A private graveside service was held at Ancient Cemetery in Yarmouth Port. Eleanor’s brother-in-law, Fr. Robert Deehan, officiated.
