Frank John Murphy

Frank John Murphy, 86, of Dennis, MA and Vero Beach, FL (formerly of Simsbury, CT) died on September 1, 2021 in Cape Cod Hospital as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident. Frank was born on May 11, 1935 in Springfield, MA, the son of Margaret Petig Murphy and John Thomas Murphy. He was the beloved husband of Carol (Shea) Murphy, to whom he was married for 60 years. Frank was a graduate of St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, MA, and a proud and loyal graduate, class of ’59, of The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. He immediately began his career as a marketing representative with The Hartford Fire Insurance Co. in Albany, NY, later transferring to Springfield, then returning to the home office in Hartford. During his early years in insurance, he completed The Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriting degree, CPCU, and Associate in Risk Management, ARM. Later he joined A.A. Watson Insurance in Wethersfield and then Covenant Mutual Insurance Co. In retirement he worked for the Orleans, MA Assessor’s Office. Frank is survived by his wife, Carol Murphy and his five children: John and partner Erika Stillson of Windsor, VT; Frank of San Diego, CA; Michael of Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Mary and husband Brian Herr of Hopkinton, MA; and Anne and husband Jeff Bernier of Barrington Hills, IL. He is also survived by his cherished eleven grandchildren: Sean, Christopher and Shannon Murphy; Haley Anderson, Siobhan, Kierin, Declan and Sinead Herr; and Jack, Luke and Alex Bernier. Frank is also survived by a sister, Margaret McMaster of Windsor, CA.

Frank was a true gentleman in every sense of the word! He will be remembered for his great devotion to his wife, the joy he experienced when spending time with his kids and grandchildren, his unfailing patience, his sly humor, his penchant for explanation (albeit sometimes long-winded), his amazing hugs, his fondness for warm, sunny climates, his frugal but giving nature, his love for sports and his lifelong passion for the game of golf.

Visitation will be held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rt. 134, South Dennis, MA on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 7:00-9:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Cape Church, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster, MA 02631 at 11:00 AM on September 9.
