August 15, 1924 – February 16, 2017
LeCates (nee Clay), Grace Olliver, 92, of Dennis, formerly of Chatham, New Jersey and Palm Coast and Leesburg, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2017, at Pleasant Bay Nursing Home, Chatham, Massachusetts after a long illness. Grace was the youngest child of the late Peter and Catherine (Brown) Clay of Cambridge Massachusetts. She was predeceased by two loving husbands, George E. Olliver (12/10/1979) and Howard E. LeCates (2/2/2017), her daughter, Jeanne St. Peter (3/28/2003) and all eight siblings.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Grace grew up in Boston but as a young woman joined her sister Kay in New Jersey and began the first of many jobs she held during her industrious life. Years later, she returned to Massachusetts with her family and ended up working as a unit clerk at Cape Cod Hospital for 20 years before retiring at age 70. Grace was generous, feisty, and full of interest in the people around her. She loved to entertain and travel, listen to classical music, and watch the sun set on Cold Storage Beach. Her great talents were to make friends at the drop of a hat and to care for the people and pets in her life.
Grace is survived by her son David Olliver of St. Peters, Missouri and his children Betsy, Tracy, and Brent. She is also survived by her son Lawrence Olliver and his wife Katherine of Acton, Massachusetts and their children Kyle and Elizabeth. And by her daughter Jeanne’s children Ryan and his wife Lindsey, Colby and her husband Sean, and Jake; and by many cherished great-grandchildren.
