SOUTH DENNIS - Mildred Louise Davis (Louise), 98, of South Dennis, Massachusetts died on December 8th at her home. Born in Beaverdale, Pennsylvania, she became a nurse after high school, and served her country from 1939 to 1942 as an Army nurse in Europe during World War II, ending her service with the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
She met her husband, Erwin Davis during her tour of duty. They married in 1946, and she worked at the Boston Lying-in. After becoming a mother and moving to Hingham, Massachusetts, she worked for a number of years for the Milton school system as a school nurse.
Louise and her family moved to South Dennis in 1967. She continued her nursing career with VNA of Central Cape Cod, where she continued until her retirement in 1986.
Louise was the wife of late Erwin Davis for 52 years and is survived by her sister Janet Barney and brother Regis McNeill.
She leaves behind two sons and their wives, E. Winn Davis and Linda of Falmouth,MA, and Alan M. Davis and his wife Betty Ann of West Barnstable.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Elizabeth Andreev and husband Konstantin of Manhattan, NY, Benson Davis of Natick, MA and Taylor Davis of Natick, MA. Additionally she had one great grandchild, Victoria Andreev. Her family will all miss her dearly.
Louise was active in her community, having served on the Board of Directors for the local library for many years. She served as the treasurer for her neighborhood association, and organized many 4th of July festivities. She thoroughly enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and sewing. More than anything, Louise loved to tell a good joke, and had a great sense of humor.
She continued to socialize to the end with her close circle of friends, who will miss her friendship and quick wit.
Graveside service at the Bourne National Cemetery will be private.
