Nancy was born in Worcester, MA on November 21, 1953, the daughter of the late John J. and Adelle M. (Puchek) Purcell. She grew up in the first-floor apartment of a Vernon Hill 3-decker with her parents and 6 siblings (all of whom shared one bathroom).
Nancy graduated from Holy Name High School and Worcester State College (University). After college, she moved to and fell in love with Cape Cod where she taught school and waited on tables during summer season.
In 1982, Nancy returned to Worcester to care for her ailing mother and father, and after a short stint in the business world, she taught school in Berlin, Boylston and Worcester, and ultimately full time at the Melican Middle School in Northborough where she taught math and coached the math team for many years.
Nancy married Dennis in 1989, and they moved to Boylston in 1993 where they lived for 26 years. During that time, Nancy annually hosted the entire Purcell family (20-30 people) to a Christmas feast each year. She also enjoyed traveling with Dennis particularly to Europe, Hawaii and many different Caribbean Islands. Nancy also took up golf and became a member of Pleasant Valley Country Club.
In 2016, Nancy retired from teaching and returned full time to her “beloved” Cape Cod where she enjoyed renovating their Cape house, gardening, golfing, boating and spending time at the beach, as well as socializing with her wonderful friends and neighbors.
Nancy was devoted to her yellow lab, “Trixie” and her golden doodle “Buddy”. She enjoyed following the careers of her nieces and nephews and the students that she taught over the years, many of whom became successful businessmen, accountants, scientists, teachers and other professionals.
Nancy leaves behind her husband Dennis Pojani, her siblings Jean Wilk and husband Irwin; Bill Purcell and wife Mary Jane, Katie Caragian, and sister-in-law Christine Purcell along with eleven nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers John (Jack) Purcell, Daniel Purcell and Patrick Purcell, and brother-in-law Paul Caragian.
