He was married to his beloved wife Phyllis for 62 years, until her death in 2023. They cultivated a life rooted in family and enduring partnership. Their life together brought them to several places in Massachusetts, with most of their time spent in Framingham, where they raised their three daughters and were active members of the community. In 2009, they retired to Brewster, where they settled in a welcoming neighborhood and made many cherished friends. Their final home was in Heatherwood in Yarmouth Port, where they moved in 2023 and quickly connected with the community. Each of these places was touched by their presence.
Ray was born on December 5, 1937, in Englewood, New Jersey. He graduated from Cliffside Park High School (N.J) and Fairleigh Dickinson University. He built a successful career in financing and leasing, and worked extensively for GE Credit and ITT Credit. He eventually founded his own leasing company, Vector Financial, in Marlboro, MA.
One of Ray’s biggest passions was golf, and he treasured his hours spent on the fairways of Captain’s Golf Course in Brewster. He enjoyed playing in various golf leagues including his regular Friday morning men’s group, and sharing his love of golf with his family and friends. In recent years, he became a self-taught Qi Gong instructor. He created and led a weekly Qi Gong group for the Brewster Council on Aging for 15 years, teaching his classes outdoors whenever possible. He inspired a very dedicated group of participants, and in September, Ray was named 2025 Volunteer of the Year by the Brewster COA at a luncheon held in his honor. He also established a weekly Qi Gong group at Heatherwood in 2023, and it rapidly grew to become an important and popular weekly activity there as well. Ray was a devout Catholic and an active member at Our Lady of the Cape (Brewster), where he regularly served as a Eucharistic Minister and Usher. His presence offered support, friendliness, and kindness to the parish community.
He will be deeply missed by his family and is survived by his daughters Claire Magdalena (Josiah) of Oregon, Gail Hardin of Darien, CT, and Julie Smith (Wayne) of Walpole, MA; and by his five grandchildren Emily Hardin, Drew Hardin, Madelyn Smith, Ryan Smith, and Tyler Smith. He is also survived by his brother Louis DiPietro (Jean) and his five nieces and nephews. May his memory bring comfort to all his life touched.
