Born January 2, 1956, in White Plains, NY, he was the son of Henry Peter Ferri and Margaret Grace (Boerio) Ferri. Rick lived in Manhattan for many years, settled in Provincetown, and lived in Brewster for the remainder of his life.
He is survived by his husband, James Lear, his sister Lisa Ferri Lanni, and his brothers Bernard and Ronald. He was predeceased by his beloved aunt Marie Boerio, and his brother Robert. He is also survived by loving family members Mary, Barbara, Kathy, April, Amanda, Christopher, Robert, Alicia, Adrian, Ryan, and Rebecca.
Rick led a varied and accomplished life. He obtained an associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing, a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthy Education, a Master of Science degree in Counseling and Adult Education, a PhD in Counseling and Education, and a Master of Science degree in Nursing, which he felt was his greatest accomplishment.
As a nurse practitioner, Rick worked in the fields of general practice, HIV and infectious disease, rehabilitation, and addiction medicine. He was a past president of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, as well as a contributor to many journals and scholarly texts. He also wrote two novels, including the award-winning Confessions of a Male Nurse.
Rick was an avid traveler, loved theater from an early age, enjoyed gardening, and was a great animal lover. He is also survived by his current family of 3 dogs, and 4 cats.
Visitation will be held on Saturday October 9, 2021 from 2-4pm at Doane, Beal and Ames, 729 Rt 134, South Dennis, MA.
