
He was the only child of the late George and Margaret (Hooker) Long, formerly of New Hampshire and Vermont. Mr. Long was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara Chamberlain Long. They were married for 67 years.
Mr. Long proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the
Pacific Theater. He was present at the war’s end in Japan, giving aid to survivors after the bombing of Hiroshima. He was, indeed, a member of
“The Greatest Generation.”
Mr. Long was an accomplished businessman, owning Duroloid Optical. He was a partner of Brown, Lisle & Marshall, Inc. and became active in the banking and financial world. After retirement, he continued his work, involved with CCB&T Investment Company, Inc., and served as counselor and trustee for valued friends and clients.
Mr. Long was a kind and gentle man. Respected and beloved, he will be greatly missed. He leaves behind his dear friends Robert, Leona and Rebecca
Bertrand and his dear cousins, Jackie and Don Swartz, and cousins Jean Hooker Hollar, John Perry Hooker, Judy Safford, John Parker Hooker, all of Vermont, and Jackie Cass of New Hampshire.
A celebration of life will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church,
205 Old Main Street, South Yarmouth at 11:00 a.m. on November 21, 2013. Interment is private.
