Sabra Turner Stockdale

Sabra Turner Stockdale, 92, of South Dennis, MA passed away peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital on May 25, 2023. Sabra was born November 16, 1930 in Quincy, MA to Edward L. and Sabra Ryder Turner. After graduating from Quincy High School in 1948, she attended Lasell Junior College in Auburndale. She then went on to study at Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists earning her degree in 1952.

Sabra married the late Charles Stockdale in 1952 and they eventually settled in West Dennis in 1963.

Sabra and Charles owned and operated Silver Sands Cottages in Yarmouth and also Cape Cod Salt Water Taffy. She was a Welcome Wagon representative and a member of the Artisans Craftsmen’s Guild, being especially well known for her hand-painted basket purses. Sabra was the owner and proprietor of The Word Christian Bookstore in West Dennis for 35 years.

Sabra helped found Victory Chapel in 1983 and was a dedicated member for 40 years. She participated in several mission trips to Europe, Africa, and Southwestern US. She considered becoming a Born Again Christian the most significant event of her life.

Sabra loved music, camping, cross-country skiing, and especially family gatherings including our annual camping trips to Nickerson State Park. She also taught piano lessons, led weekly sing-a-longs at local nursing homes, and weekly Bible studies at the bookstore. She remained spirited and adventurous throughout her long life.

Sabra is survived by her three children, Linda Lydecker (Peter) of Reading, MA, Chuck Stockdale (Teri) of South Dennis, and Ken Stockdale (Sherri) of Harwich. Grandchildren are Janet, Adam (Katie), Ben, Jackson, and Joelle. Great-grandchildren are Daisy and Lexow. She considered her friends at Victory Chapel her spiritual family.

At Sabra’s request, her body was donated to the Tufts University Anatomical Gift Program for the advancement of medicine. Donations may be made in Sabra’s name to Friends of Nickerson State Park (friendsofnickerson.org), Victory Chapel (victorychapel.com), or a charity of one’s choice.
