

Mr. Gabany was born January 2, 1933 in West Virginia, the son of the late Alexander E. Gabany, Sr. and Madeline May Mason Gabany. Alex was retired from Union Carbide where he had worked for forty years. He enjoyed stamps and clocks; he also enjoyed genealogy and photography. Mr. Gabany was active in his church in West Virginia, he was a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and sang in the choir at First Baptist Church of St. Albans, in North Carolina, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Island. Mr. Gabany was a veteran of the United State Marine Corps, having served in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife Nona P. Gabany, a son Robert Jay Gabany and wife Anne; a brother, Bobby Jay Gabany and wife Marilyn; a sister Betty Jo Gabany; a granddaughter Elizabeth Hope Brost; two great-grandchildren, Ellie Taylor Brost and Arto Brost; and Nona’s children, Cary Webb and Kristal Webb. Mr. Gabany was preceded in death by a grandson Andrew Gabany, and two brothers, Vern Gabany and Don Gabany.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Oak Island. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am prior to the service at the church. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 4, 2018 in the mausoleum chapel at Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans, West Virginia.
