Charles Thomas Martin

Charles was born March 8, 1940, son of the late Lehman Andrew Martin and Lessie Mae Massengill Martin.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Janet Martin; two children, Matt Martin and wife Mary, and Melissa Sherrod and husband Bill; and six grandchildren, Emma Martin, Josh Martin, Aubrey Sherrod, Andrew Sherrod, Jacob Sherrod, and Anna Sherrod.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou Jackson.

Charles was a loving husband, father and papa. He was kind and gentle, never knowing a stranger or enemy, but he had a devilish sense of humor. He loved golfing, fishing, being outdoors but mostly his family. He could fix or “MacGyver” anything. Charles worked in the State Auditor’s office for 38 years and continued to do accounting work until recently. He made an impact with everyone he knew, and his spirit will live in all he touched.

A celebration of his life will be held at noon on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Ocean View United Methodist Church on Oak Island.
