

John Edward Bowling, 79, passed from this life in to God’s presence, August 30, 2017, with loving family at his side. He was born of Darnell Bowling and Amanda Baker Bowling in Wooten, KY, May 30, 1937. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Mary Hewett and Shirley Galloway.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years Evie Brown Bowling; three daughters, Donna (Barney) Bates of Winchester, KY, Rhonda (Bradley) Walker of Sunset Harbor, and Jenny Milligan of Boiling Spring Lakes; two sons, Ricky (Nellie) Bowling of Bolivia, and Bradley (Theresa) Bowling of Oak Island; nine grandchildren, Brian (Kimberly) Bates, Rebecca Bates, Ashton Bowling, April Simmons, Rachel Milligan, Bethany (DaQuan) Jones, Caleb Milligan, Kyle Bowling, and McKenzie Bowling; three great-grandchildren, Bryson, Brody, and Zamari; one brother Sam (Linda) Bowling; and son-in-law Dale Milligan.
Johnny was a skilled carpenter by trade, retiring from Ft. Caswell Baptist Assembly after 20 years, and then was self-employed, his skilled hands built churches and many houses throughout the years. A servant at heart he was a dedicated Sunday School Superintendent, and was a founding member and lifetime trustee of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church.
Johnny was a man unselfish and quiet spoken, not consumed by worldly affairs, but totally focused on his mission in life of faithful service to his God, his family, and his fellow man. His life was the epitome of humility; he was the sweetest of the kindness, a model of God’s grace to humankind. His spirit now released from his mortal shell of suffering, he joins the heavenly host in worship to his model, Jesus the master carpenter. All who’s lives were touched by him are blessed by the memory of this just and faithful man.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. The visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church. Reverend Charles Drew will officiate the service and burial will follow in the Brown Family Cemetery in Bolivia.
Pallbearers will be Madison Drew, George Bumgarner, David Johnson, Ken White, Mike Adams, and Barney Bates. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Webb and Tom Hyatt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse Pentecostal Church, 5420 Ocean Highway, Winnabow, NC 28479.
