John Phillip Mulligan, 83, of St. James, North Carolina, passed peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, December 24, 2023. He was born December 18, 1940, in Washington DC, son of the late Edward W. Mulligan and Bertha Behne.
After serving for thirty years, John retired from the Washington, DC Fire Department in 1995, having achieved the rank of Battalion Chief. He was an avid outdoorsman involved in boating, hunting, and fishing. He also had a strong passion for golf. He was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Mary Ellen (Reddington); three daughters, Teresa (Steven) Kinsey, Laurie (Stephen) Lyons, and Jennifer (Thomas) Neufell; brother, Edward Mulligan; as well as 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Memorial services are planned for a later date, TBD.
