Mr. McCowan was born March 25, 1953, son of the late Lloyd and Nell McCowan. Shag was a disc jockey, performing most recently at the Lazy Turtle on Oak Island and previously at many local venues.
He is survived by his son, Joseph McCowan; and a sister, Linda McCowan Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas McCowan.
In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.
