Mike was born January 2, 1941 in New York, New York, son of the late William T. and Margaret Noy Smith. Mike was a graduate of Xavier High School in New York, and College of The Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Mike was a Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps, where he served as a platoon commander in amphibious vehicles. In addition to being a Captain in the Reserves, he was an avid skier, marathon runner, and triathlete. His favorite leisure activities included boating in Sag Harbor and golf.
Survivors include his wife, Robyn Hartmann Smith; twin sons, Scott W. Smith and Michael C. Smith and his wife Kathryn Morrissette; and two grandsons, Dillon Smith and Wyatt Smith. He was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Noy Smith.
