I've known Richard since the 2nd grade and shared many of life's maturing hallmarks with him.  I remember him meeting Susan, their courtship, marriage, and becoming parents and grandparents.  I'm most grateful that Susan was his soulmate through thick and thin.  She fought admirably hard for herself and those she loved.  A strong woman.  My life has been blessed by her presence and friendship.  My wife Mary and I count them as our best friends and through prayers and tears have lifted her family up.  What a wonderful LADY OF THE SALT she was.  Most of the Middle Sound boating community called her and Richard, "THURSTON AND LOVEY"  as they were noted for their frequent presence in the water and sand she loved so much.  She will be sweetly remembered and dearly missed.  Much love to my lifelong friend Richard at this the turning of yet another life page we've shared.

These were years of joy, years of pain. We shared an office, a classroom, and served young children facing great challenges in life. Your mom helped to "remove the clouds" so that the inherent happiness within these children had a chance to shine. Now it is your mom's time to shine, to "twinkle radiantly" in the realm above us. Those who knew and loved her will miss her greatly. May our grief be solaced by memories of the deeds and actions that brought happiness to others.

Susan was a bright light. It has been such a privilege and blessing to share interests and those things that brought us hope and  joy.  Susan so loved her family! Thanks to Amie for the extra effort to let me know of Susan's passing. During and after a brief hospital stay recently,  Susan repeatedly spoke of the comfort and care she felt when her dear Richard visited. She mentioned that he brought meals, including a plate on Thanksgiving. On Saturday I will sit in quiet prayer to join her service at a distance.  I will pray for each family member, including  her beloved mother and dear grandson. May memories of good times bring comfort to Susan's  loved ones.

I had the privilege of meeting Susan a little over 3 years ago in Master Gardener classes. We immediately hit it off. She was so vivacious and fun loving. There were 4 of us who  enjoyed each others company often and had many fun loving adventures. I enjoyed many phone conversations with Susan especially during her fight with “the beast” as she would say.  Susan could light up a room and  cheer anyone up. I will deeply miss her smile and  fun loving nature. My deepest sympathy to Richard, Amy and the entire family. Susan was a treasure. Miss you gal!

I only had the pleasure of knowing Susan for 3 short years. We meant in the master gardening class and she was one of my first gardening friends in Wilmington as I had just moved here. We soon found out we had much in common  and lived within walking distance. I will miss her wonderful humor. Her quick wit. She took me under her wing  and I learned so much about Wilmington and gardening from Susan.  I will miss sitting on her porch and talking about our yards, our daughters, grand children and pottery. I now have 10 plants from Susan in my yard so that when I walk my yard I will visit with her. What a great loss for all that knew her. Our world will be a little less fun without Susan in it. But we will treasure the memories. I am so glad she is at peace and may all her family and friends find peace as well.

I first met Susan when I came to Wilmington to work at the Wilmington CDSA.  She was always so full of life and laughter.  I loved hearing her stories and her talk about her family and working in her yard.  We talked several months ago and it was nice to catch up with her.  She will be truly missed my many!  Rest in Peace my friend!

I will miss my dear friend, Susan ... we met many moons ago and retained that friendship over the years. Susan’s honest friendship was invaluable. Throughout the years, we’ve shared laughs, tears, joy, sorrow, advice, pictures, family events, and memories.. Susan will always be a part of the fabric of my life and I am so thankful for her. Peace my friend! 

My Sweet Susan, 

You were by my side when I first realized my  life had changed  and I was now a mom of a child with extraordinary needs. You were kind and comforting when I needed it most. Imagine my surprise when I moved ten years later and realized you were now my neighbor. I loved seeing you smile riding around on your golf cart with Richard, so full of love. Thank you for your friendship and for your support. You always stuck by me and by my Mia. Sending so much love your family. 

I met Susan at UNC as a volunteer during her cancer journey.  Somehow  she always made me smile and laugh although I knew how difficult it was for her to face her diagnosis and treatment.  She was very special, and I will hold her in my heart and miss her immensely.  Love to her family.

I never met Susan in person but I feel as if I knew her. She was a long time friend of my daughter, Rhonda. She was a very special person and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers to the Family. 

I loved Susan. We met while attending ECU. I was from Wilmington at that time. We were 2 peas in a pod, we even had our own language!! Dadeeda da data da  dooda💜💜 We didn’t get to see each other often but  kept in touch on FB.

What a treasure and a hoot! I have known Susan since her days at SEMH Center and CDSA and will always remember her with so many good memories. I always knew that when I referred a child to her for services, that child and their family  were in good hands. She was so compassionate, caring and full of life. Susan always spoke lovingly of her family and I grieve for your loss.

What a beautiful person 💕. I will truly miss our talks and her sweet spirit.  I extend my heartfelt and sincere condolences to each of you. Praying for peace, comfort and strength for each moment. . .

A dear person in every way, the world will miss her and was so blessed to have her.  She always made me laugh no matter how long it had been since we had seen each other.   My prayers to her family and friends.   Rest easy now; you definitely earned your wings.   ❤️ 👼 

Susan never hesitated to accept me as her “northern” friend, she was the type of friend that you could pick up right where you left off; for example I was out of the country for a few years and when I came back we picked up right where we left off.  Joking and kidding each other over silly things and laughing until we were crying, especially at our friend Helen’s birthday party.  Susan was special to me, for so many reasons, her humor and ability to grab life’s lemons and make her own special brand of lemonade.  But mostly because there was a time after moving here from upstate NY that she knew I was very down and she took the time to write her new friend, a sweet card that I have always treasured.
