Alex Morgan Smythe, beloved husband, father, son, grandson, brother, and uncle, passed away on August 30, 2024, at the age of 34. Born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1990, in Plantation, Florida, Alex is remembered for his warmth, charm, and infectious sense of humor.
Alex grew up with a passion for tennis and golf, sports he continued to love throughout his life. He attended Florida Gulf Coast University and became a successful realtor at D’Angelo Realty on Las Olas in Ft. Lauderdale. Alex was a gifted self-taught pianist and guitarist, a talented artist, and a skilled photographer, always capturing life's precious moments.
In January 2020, Alex married Brittany Maher, the love of his life. Alex and Brittany were each other’s worlds and were happiest when together. They grew up five minutes apart and their paths unknowingly crossed multiple times, but fate finally brought them together in January 2015. From that day forward they were inseparable, as both of their lives changed forever, for the better. Soulmates, it felt as though they had always known each other. Of course, it was the arrival of their beautiful son, Dylan, in January 2023, that created the next chapter of their lives. Alex’s love for his wife and son was immeasurable. Alex was a devoted husband and father who dreamed of sharing his love for golf, tennis, and music with Dylan and instilling in him the playful spirit and zest for life Alex had.
Alex's close-knit family meant everything to him. He also cherished the time spent with his immediate family, including his mother, Jody; his older sister, Lauren, and her husband Dan; and his nieces, Olivia and Avery. His bond with his dad Tom, was particularly special; they could be found laughing on the golf course or chatting about the Miami Heat. In addition to his amazing family, he was surrounded by unconditional love and support by his in-laws, close circle of friends, and the community.
Shortly after his father's passing in April 2024, Alex was diagnosed with dermatomyositis, a rare autoimmune disorder, which led to rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease. His battle was short but courageous.
Alex leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. He lit up every room he walked into, and left a lasting impact on everyone he met. His humor and kindness touched everyone who knew him, from his family to his friends and colleagues. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him. Alex’s legacy will continue to thrive through his son Dylan, whose future will be shaped by the love and wisdom his father left behind. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and his impact will never be forgotten.
