Evelyn E Lewis

Evelyn Estelle Lewis, 101, of Hollywood, Florida passed away surrounded by loved ones on January 20th, 2022 after a long and loving life. Evelyn was born on February 27th, 1920 to Abe and Sophia Kahn in Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, NY, she went on to study for a short time at New York University. Soon after, Evelyn met the love of her life, Philip Lewis. They immediately hit it off and eloped and got married in Dayton, Ohio in 1942. They had three children; their first child, Alan Jay Lewis was born in 1945. Their second child, Linda Lewis Cowen was born in 1949 and their third child Cherie Joblove was born in 1959. Evelyn and Philip operated children’s summer day camps on Long Island, including the Sea Breeze Day Camp, the Great Neck Country Day Camp. They also operated a Nursery School named the ABC Playtime Nursery; and owned and operated a sleep away camp in upstate New York. Philip predeceased Evelyn in 2000. Evelyn was passionate about all children, especially her own. When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found following her passions: shopping, participating in organizational clubs, politics and helping others. Evelyn was a loving and caring human being who was always curious and persevered. She is survived by her three children; Alan Jay Lewis (Ellen Kracoff); Linda Lewis Cowen and Cherie Joblove (Michael Joblove); her grandchildren; Stephen Eric Lewis, Jonathan Scott Lewis, Michael Scott Cowen, Maegan Ashley Cowen, Aimee Fogel and Matthew Joblove; and great-grandchildren: Samuel Max Lewis, Miles Adler-Lewis, Zoe Adler-Lewis, Abe Jonah Fogel, Naomi Leah Fogel, Lance Scott Gabriel Cowen and Juliette Ames Joblove. We will greatly miss her loving kindness, passion for life and generosity. What a blessing it has been to have had her for such a long time in our lives.
