George Davis

George Davis, age 92, of Plantation, Florida passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. George was born on June 5, 1931, to Emma and Samuel Davis in New Haven, CT. He graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven, CT in 1949. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953.

He married Charlotte Leibowitz in 1953. They had two sons, Jeffrey and Kenneth. They divorced in 1976.

He married his wife, Wilma on February 2, 1986. They lived in Plantation, Florida. They were married for over 37 years. They enjoyed those years by spending time with family and friends, traveling, and supporting each other.

In 2019, he was taken on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. with other servicemen. He said it was “one of the best days” of his life. Publix, the grocery store he worked in for many years, even surprised him with a big party to celebrate his service to his country.

George just celebrated 27 years of sobriety on August 1st. Maintaining his sobriety was so important to him. His friends and family are so proud of that accomplishment.

George was a people person. At Publix, he was affectionately known as “Mr. George.” He was full of wonderful stories and loved to share them. He was always joking and making people laugh. He had a great smile and loved life. He will be missed by so many.

George was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Ronald Davis of Florida, and his son, Kenneth Davis of Connecticut.

George is survived by his loving wife, Wilma, his son Jeffrey (Ellen) Davis, his daughter-in-law, Elise Davis, his grandchildren, Beth-Ann Bisk (Ari) and Stephanie Darrow (Bill), Sharon Huizinga (Tom), and Michael Davis (Kristin), and his great-grandchildren, Cole, Cadence, Charlie, Chase, Dylan, Liam, Kyler, and Harper.

A memorial service for George will be held Sunday, August 20, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Menorah Gardens & Funeral Chapels, 21100 West Griffin Road, Southwest Ranches, FL 33332.
