

Phyllis Parker, artist and art scholar/lecturer, died of heart failure in Weston, Florida, on December 10, 2011. She was born Phyllis Michael Goldfarb, in New York City on May 17, 1928, the first of three children of Joyce Faust and Morris Goldfarb.
Ms. Parker was married for 63 years to Jo Parker, a Bronze Star recipient during World War II, and pioneer of condominium sales in South Florida. The Parkers met at Long Island University while waiting in the line at the school's bookstore.
Ms. Parker was a member of the academic honor society Phi Kappa Phi, attended the University of Wisconsin and held degrees from Long Island University B.S., Florida Atlantic University B.F.A. and M.Ed. Ms. Parker's work was featured on nearly 40 occasions in the Miami Herald, South Florida Magazine, local television, and other regional publications. She regularly taught as an adjunct professor at Florida International University, Miami-Dade College and Broward College. Ms. Parker served as President and Vice President of the Women's Caucas for Art. She was the recipient of grants and awards from the city of Miami, the Royal Poinciana Fiesta, and Miami Dade College. Her works are held by the South Florida Art Center, the South Florida Bank, Florida Atlantic University, and many private collections. Her work has been exhibited in nearly 70 separate exhibitions, including Bass Museum of Art, Bakehouse Art Complex, South Florida Art Center, Maxim Fine Art, Boca Raton Museum, Tampa Museum of Art, Miami Youth Museum, University of Miami, Florida International University, Barry University, Norton Galleries, Long Gallery and Viscaya Museum.
Mrs. Parker is survived by her children: Lisa Ehrlich (Mac), Eric Parker (Joy), Seth Parker and Michael Parker (Carmina "Mimi"). She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Joshua Hyatt, Jacob Ehrlich, Jeremy and Matthew Parker, Katherine Chestnut, Jonathan and Jennifer Parker and brothers Alan Goldfarb and Edward Goldfarb.
Memorial services will be held at Temple Dor Dorim, 2360 Glades Circle, Weston, Florida 33327 on Sunday, January 15, 2012, at 11:00 AM. Lunch and a celebration of her life to follow the service. Arrangements made by Menorah Gardens & Funeral Chapels, Southwest Ranches, Fl., 954-434-1531.
