To my beloved wife, Bernadette. For 55 years, you were my partner, my confidante, and my best friend. In the hearts of those who loved you, you will always be there. Your presence I miss, your memory I treasure, loving you always, forgetting you never.
Bernadette was the cornerstone of our family. Growing up in Totowa, a daughter of Sal and Anna Longo, she had 3 sisters. She is survived only by one sister, Rosanne Fisher. Her family legacy lives on in our children and grandchildren; Anna DeSilver Luna and Michael DeSilver, as well as our precious grandchildren; Ava Luna, Joey Luna, James DeSilver, Luci DeSilver & Jack DeSilver. They are a testament to her love and the values she held dear and passed on to them. I see her kindness in their actions, her resilience in their strength, and her love in the way they care for each other. Our wonderful Daughter-in-law Lauren DeSilver and Son-in-law Scott Luna are the linchpins that have brought us the next generation that is rooted in love for their families.
One of my favorite memories of Bernadette was that just about every Sunday we had Sunday dinner together as a family at 2pm. The food was prepared for many days ahead of time. The table set for family and friends in the most perfect arrangement of a four to five course meal you have ever seen. We would all wonder how she did it. Afterwards small groups of family and friends would move about the house to their favorite spot to relax. The house was surrounded by the laughter of our children and the carefree joy of our grandchildren. She sat there, the proud mother of what she had built, watching them with a smile that spoke volumes about her happiness and contentment. While also being larger than life, she always found true joy in the simple moments, in the love of family.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will always be a part of us. We will carry her in our hearts, remember her with every smile, and honor her by living lives full of love and compassion.
Rest in peace, my love. Thank you for 55 wonderful years. Thank you for our beautiful family. And thank you for being you.
