Born in Newton, Ronny lived his entire life in Sparta with his wife of 65 years, Ruth (Johnson). Ronny was the son of the late Alton “Shorty” and Janet Earl.
Ron and Ruth were 1953 graduates of Newton High School where Ron played football, baseball and basketball. He went on to play football, baseball and basketball and graduated from Trenton State College (now TCNJ). Ron taught and coached in Sparta for thirty years. He coached football at Sparta High School for thirty years and was head coach for eleven years, winning three state sectional championships. He was inducted into the Sussex Co. Sports Hall of Fame, the NJSIAA Coaches Hall of Fame, the College of NJ Athletics Hall of Fame and the Sparta High School Sports Hall of Fame. In addition to his love of family and sports he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Ronny is survived by his wife Ruth, his sister Jackie Campbell (Jack) of Thurmont, MD, his six children, Ronny, Jr. (Judi) of Frankford, Sharon of Sparta, Randy (Terry) of Sparta, Jay (Eileen) of Sparta, Joey (Sue) of Sparta and Dawn Tolotta (Tony) of Phillipsburg. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Carly Krohn (Jeff), Jason, Joshua Bounds, Jeff, Julia, Brittney, Joey, Jeanne and Natalie, and his great grandchildren, Blake and Wyatt Krohn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Ronny’s name to your favorite charity. The family will be holding a private service at a later date.
