Desmond is survived by his son, Jerry; grandchildren, Serena, Christina, and Stephen; and four great-grandchildren, who were all the light of his life.
Desmond was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He served as a medic in the Germany campaign on Normandy Beach. He was wounded in combat and received an EAME Campaign Ribbon with one Bronze Star, a Good Conduct Ribbon, an American Theater Ribbon, and a World War II Victory Medal. He served in numerous volunteer positions throughout his community and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Goble Funeral Home, Sparta, on Sunday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 6 p.m. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m. at St. Kateri R.C. Church, Sparta. Interment will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx, N.Y., where military honors will be held.
