

Born on June 2, 1932 in Sparta, NJ, Joyce was the daughter of the late Fred B. and Lillian Carpenter. She was employed as a physical education teacher at the Rev. George A. Brown Memorial School for many years. She was also employed at Calico Cat Fabric Store, Sparta. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Church for over 70 years.
She was a kind and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, swimming, participating in senior olympics, camping with friends, reminiscing about Lake Mohawk, and mostly spending time with her family.
She is survived by three children, Richard Jr. (Andrea), Karen DeFriest (Robert) and Jerald (Linda), two brothers, Bernard and Melvin. Nine grandchildren, Jennelle, Rob, Dan, Brianne, Mindy, Jeremy, Kendrick, Bethany, Dana, ten precious great grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest.
The family would like to thank the staff at Chelsea for the kind and compassionate care Joyce received during her stay there.
In lieu of flowers, Joyce had requested donations be made to the Sparta Historical Society Van Kirk Museum.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 18 at The Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St. Sparta, NJ. A mass of Christian burial will then be celebrated at 11:30 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 294 S.Sparta Avenue, Sparta, NJ with interment to follow at Sparta Cemetery.
