Mary Claire Davis

Mary Claire Davis, age 84, of Sparta, New Jersey passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016. Mary Claire was the loving wife of the late Alan T. Davis; the two celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage together. Mary Claire was born at home on Glen Road in Sparta on September 25, 1931 to Frederic and Olga Dodge. She has a loving sister, Carolyn Jane Strombeck, age 91 of Sparta. After graduating from Newton High School in 1948, Claire worked at the law office of Dolan & Dolan and also served for many years in public and school libraries. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta, where she sang in the choir as a child and then joined the bell choir in her adult life.Claire enjoyed reading, needlework, painting, and international travel with her late husband and dear friends. Claire was an incredibly dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by two children: Jill Melissa Darling and husband Neil of Mount Bethel, PA and Jeffrey Alan Davis and wife Barbara of Sarasota, Florida. Claire was also blessed with two dear granddaughters, Sarah Dillon and husband Drew of Lancaster, PA and Amanda Darling of Lancaster, PA. The funeral service will be held at 10:30am Monday, April 4, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Sparta Cemetery. A viewing will be held at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta on Sunday, April 3, 2016 from 3-7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Sparta, 32 Main Street, Sparta, NJ 07871 or Bristol Glen Healthcare Unit, Newton, NJ.
