Isabelle Gertina Rounds (96) was born 12/10/1925 in Spirit Lake, Idaho to tom & Ruth Falkenberg. She attended school in Spirit Lake, graduating in 1943. She passed away in her sleep on February 23, 2022.
Her father worked at the Spirit Lake lumber mill until the mill closed due to a massive fire. At that time, the Falkenbergs with Issy moved to Spokane, Washington to find work.
It was in Spokane, during WWII, that Harold (Rosy), Rounds sent Issy a letter, asking if they could write to each other while he was overseas in the Navy. Rosy was a Spirit Lake friend who went to school with her. On return, he proposed, and they married at the first Central Lutheran Church, 3rd and Chandler by Pastor Belgum in June 1945.
They had four boys. Tom (Marilyn), Mike (Julie), Bob (twin to Mike), and Tim (Megan). She had 5 grandchildren: Chris, Craig (Lisa), Katie (Tyler) Karaffa, Melissa Jensen, Joe (Bree) and 9 great grandchildren: Allyson, Abigail, Quinn, Kinsey, Jaxon, Belle, Jamie, Emma and Evie. She is also survived by sister-in-law Beverly (Ken) Falkenberg, and her children (Sue and Brent).
She is preceded in death by parents, Tom & Ruth Falkenberg, husband Rosy, niece Cheri Falkenberg, brothers Harold (Bobbie) and Ken Falkenberg, and son Bob Rounds.
After the boys started attending school, she worked as a Secretary for Central Lutheran Church. After 37 years working there, she retired and became a church volunteer. She was known as a loving and caring person.
She enjoyed being with her family and friends and telling her stories. She went to Spirit Lake in the summer each weekend. She loved gardening and would do canning for the winter. On Friday night, she would load up for the lake and always brought a large box of garden vegetables, and usually a dessert. Plus, family would bring something for the pot. While there she would sometimes ski, go fishing, visiting by the shore, boating, reading, exploring, huckleberry picking.
She also went to the WVHS Sports events, the B Basketball Tournament, Seattle for Seafair and Odessa for Oktoberfest. She also belonged to the Happy Homemakers in West Valley. One highlight was going to Norway to visit relatives. Bob, Ken & Bev went with her. She loved traveling.
Because of her Norwegian heritage, Christmas Eve was very special to her. Having family for dinner and mainly serving lutefisk, meatballs, lefse, flatbread, dill pickles from the garden. Plus, Scandinavian cookies.
There will be a graveside internment service on March 21st, 4:30 pm at Pines Cemetery next to Thornhill Valley Chapel Funeral Home. Pastor David Kappus officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Central Lutheran. We want to thank the many people at Colonial Court Assisted Living for their love and care. We also want to thank Horizon Hospice for helping us through this.
