John McEwan Cowan (Scotty) passed away peacefully in Spokane on September 30th at the age of 91. He was the second child of John and Nancy Cowan, born in Edinburgh Scotland. He immigrated to Spokane Washington in late 1951 with his family.
Scotty was a proud Scotsman who led a very full life. He had a great sense of humor, and was very charming. He could recite any limerick, and always had many “Dad” jokes to tell. Scotty loved dancing, and the ladies. He was married to Eva, Betty Lou (who was a lifetime friend), and Judy. Scotty's long time girlfriend Glora passed away a few years ago. He worked as a paint and body man at Cowan’s paint shop, and also as a prison guard. Scotty was sober 52 years and worked with AA for a long time as a mentor. He loved everyone there and was proud to help.
Scotty was preceded in death by his dad John, mom Nancy, sisters Gladys, Agnes, and Marie, as well as his brother Sandy.
Scotty is survived by daughter Shirley Hudson, granddaughter Selina, and his younger brother Victor. He has a newly discovered daughter Venisa Smithson (Inks), who has many children and grandchildren. Scotty was a wonderful father to his step children: Vince, Cecilia, Julie, and Angie Bozzi. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
