Leona was born October 2, 1917 to Louise and Charles Charbonneau in St. John, North Dakota and passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. She was the second oldest of seven children; (Omer, Sergius, Edward, Doris, Mathilda & Evelyn). At a young age her parents moved their growing family to Canade to farm. The family eventually moved back to the United States and settled in Spokane, Washington where Leona went to business school. On November 13, 1943, Leona married the love of her life, Richard Trowbridge at Farragut Idaho Naval Base. In November of 2010 they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. They had four children, Pat (Adele) Trowbridge of San Diego, CA, Mike Trowbridge of Spokane, WA, Terry Trowbridge deceased (Lori), and Ginger (Ken) Smith of Laclede, ID. Leona worked at the Palace Dept. Store and in the money order department at the Post Office in Spokane. But it was her life long career as an accountant at Kaiser Trentwood in Spokane, WA spanning over 32 years that gave her the greatest satisfaction. Leona had many interests (family, church, cooking & sewing) but none were as prevalent in her life as her passion for bowling which lasted for 51 years. She continued to bowl two times a week well into her early 90’s. She was inducted into the Spokane Women’s Bowling Association “Hall of Fame” in March of 1997 for her unending service including; membership on the Board of Directors of SWBA for 16 years-serving as their director and many years as treasurer, establishing the Spokane Women’s “500” Club of which she held the position of President for many years, volunteering at Special Olympics tournaments, delegate to state and national bowling conventions, lane representative and working on and participating in SWBA tournaments. Her active volunteering carried over into her church life as well where she became treasurer of the St. Frances Guild at St. Pascal’s Church. There she was involved in fund raising projects including making dolls, Christmas ornaments and quilts. Family was important to Leona and she always invented reasons to have family gatherings, where she would be found in the kitchen cooking up her favorite dishes. Leona enjoyed sewing and crafting for her 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was always there for her children and took pride in them. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 9AM at St. Paschal’s Catholic Church, 2523 North Park Road, Spokane, 99212. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00AM on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at St. Paschals, with interment immediately following at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 17825 East Trent, Spokane Valley, WA 99216.
