Leroy “Doug” Douglas Lowdon, born March 5, 1932 in Spokane, WA, passed away on March 6, 2023 at the momentous age of 91. Doug grew up in Spokane Valley and attended Central Valley High School where he excelled in athletics. After graduation, Washington State University accepted Doug on a football scholarship and he played briefly before enlisting in the US Navy and serving during the Korean War. After honorable discharge, Doug returned to the Pacific Northwest and studied to become a teacher at Eastern Washington State College while driving truck for Safeway through the summers.
Doug married Marceline “Marcie” Pope in 1956 and they raised their two children together. While teaching at Greenacres Junior High and still driving for Safeway in the summer, Doug built a log cabin at Granite Creek on Pend Oreille Lake. With the company of family and friends, Doug spent time hunting, fishing, and maintaining the cabin in his favorite place on earth. For 54 years, Doug and Marcie traveled, golfed, and celebrated life together until her passing in 2011. In his last decade, Doug always wanted to be at “the cabin” and to share a smile with anyone and everyone.
Preceded in death by his parents, sister, June; wife, Marcie; and daughter, Debbie; Doug is survived by his son, Mike; grandkids, Lani, Haley, Chrissy, Adam, and Amanda; and many great grandkids.
