

Lloyd A. Schmaltz, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015. Lloyd was born in Bismark, North Dakota March of 1926. He was the son of Ignatz and Barbara Schmaltz. He grew up in a family of 8. All have preceded Lloyd in death, except for Roy Schmaltz and Judy Eberle. Also preceded in death was his wife of 66 years, Margie, his daughter Marie and great-grandson Alan Schmaltz.
They had 8 children, Jim and Barb Schmaltz, Rod and Val Schmaltz, Carol and Wally Draper, David and CeCe Schmaltz, Ron and Vicki Schmaltz, Barb and Mike Devine, Rick and Adele Schmaltz, 25 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren. Lloyd was active in many school sports, particularly basketball and baseball. Sports continued to be a passion he would follow throughout his life. In 1945, Lloyd married his high school sweetheart Margie Schall. They lived in Hague, North Dakota where they built their first home while Lloyd worked at the local hardware store and drove the Standard Oil truck. In 1957, they moved to Spokane, Washington. Lloyd worked for F.R. Hewett Road Construction before starting his own business as a quality home builder. While framing homes, Lloyd fostered many friendships and gained a reputation in the industry for his honesty and quality of work. He took the opportunity to build his own home and helped several family members to build and or remodel their own homes.
Lloyd and Margie pursued an active and social lifestyle. They enjoyed bowling along with square dancing and polka. Lloyd was a family man, with a priority for his family’s well-being. Lloyd and Margie always shared their time and home with their family and friends. For over 57 years, Lloyd was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. John Vianney parish.There will be a vigil on Sunday, Dec 6, 2015 from 6 – 8 p.m. with the Rosary service held at 7 p.m. at Thornhill Valley Chapel 1400 S. Pines Spokane Valley, WA. The Funeral Mass will be held Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St John Vianney Catholic Church 503 N. Walnut Rd., Spokane Valley, WA. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
