Bob was born in Almira Wa to a farming family on September 25th 1914. In 1921 he and his parents moved to Alberta Canada to start a new homestead. In 1928 Bob returned to this area to pursue his higher education at the age of 14 with a full scholarship to WSU where he earned his major in Psychology. Eventually Bob would earn his masters and a doctorate as well, from U of W and Gonzaga University. If you knew Bob, you were very aware of his inquisitive personality and intellect that craved education and thought.
In 1943 Bob was drafted into the Navy and served the duration of WWII as a naval officer on the USS Amsterdam CL101.
Much of Bob’s life before and after WWII was spent as a personnel professional in several companies around the Inland Northwest. His best professional years were spent at Gonzaga University from 1955-1980 where he retired as the Dean of Business.
Bob spent his retirement years with his wife of nearly 40 years, Mary Ann Burke. Bob and Mary Ann traveled the world with their friends and family, his favorite spot was Africa with a total of 8 separate safaris. For Bob’s entire life he has had a deep seeded connection with the animal kingdom and animal behavior. Bob was heavily active in Walk in the Wild Zoo and other local animal refuges.
Bob is survived by his 3 children, Robin, Susan and Jeff, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with the MacKay family.
After a long and good life, Bob passed away on September 21st 2011.
