age 85, of Spokane, Washington,
passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025
Robert Patrick Marx was born January 24, 1939, in Watertown, South Dakota to Anthony and Agnes Marx. Bob was their third child, later followed by three younger siblings. A long-time resident of Spokane, he attended Sacred Heart Elementary and Gonzaga Prep where he participated in ROTC, then joined the Army Reserves, making the rank of Spec Forth Class. Bob later went on to work for the Spokane School District as an Operating Engineer for over four decades, including working at Shadle, Farris, and the district Administration Bldg.
Bob was married to his wife Evelyn for 41 years. He was very much a loving family man and enjoyed Evelyn’s three children and their off-springs, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Marx clan. Bob left the kids with warm, loving memories of many good times with him playing with them and also being there for them as they grew up, which sometimes included extended visits in his big house on the South Hill that he so enjoyed working on and remodeling. Bob always had a good attitude and got along well with people and animals. He and Evelyn enjoyed gardening and encouraged squirrels and birds to visit their yard. They had a love of all things Spokane including parks, restaurants, shopping. Being an animal lover, Bob always had a dog and especially enjoyed the morning walks with fellow dog owners in Upper Lincoln Park. He and Evelyn also enjoyed traveling, often in their spiffy little sports car.
Evelyn passed Sept. 24, 2021. During Bob’s last couple of years he resided at South Hill Memory Care where staff (and his very caring, vigilant little brother) took very good care of him, making Bob’s determination of never leaving the South Hill possible.
Bob’s sisters Eileen Miller and Kathy Heitner and brother Jim have passed. Bob will be sorely missed by his surviving younger sister Anita Teague and little brother Jack Marx.
As Bob and Evelyn had planned, they will be laid to rest together at Spokane-Cheney Memorial Gardens (5909 Cheney Spokane Rd. Spokane, Wa. 99224) on Friday, March 28th at noon. The Rev. Msgr. Robert Pearson (a “old” dear school buddy of Bob’s) will officiate at the burial service.
Following the service there will be a luncheon at The Chalet Restaurant at 2918 So. Grand Blvd. (one of Bob and Evelyn’s favorite places.) All friends and family of Bob And/Or Evelyn are invited to attend one or both of these events. Please RSVP to Jack at (206) 818-6172 or e-mail [email protected]
