

"Al" Thompson passed away on February 4th, 2011 in Vancouver, Washington. He was born in McKenzie, North Dakota on June 2, 1917 to Charles William Thompson (1881) and Anna (Hamre) Thompson (1886). He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. and the Army Air Corps. during World War II. In 1942 Al married the love of his life, Dorothy (Schoenberg) and she became the mother of their six children. She passed away in 1988. Al was an Army Air Corps. trainer pilot during World War II, and moved to Spokane with his family after the war. In 1968 Al was working for Northwest Radio and TV when the owner decided to liquidate his interests. Al, along with a partner, took over the appliance repair side of the business and founded ALWACO Appliance service. In 1982 Al retired to spend time traveling with Dorothy. He especially enjoyed golf, dancing, and traveling with friends DJ and Annie Koch, as well as fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved his children and grandchildren, and was a wonderful father, brother, son, and the perfect grandpa. He was also a member of The American Legion, The Moose, Elks, and Eagle Lodges. During his years of raising a family, he instilled in them ethics, the love of humor, and family values. Alvin was preceded in death by his daughter Diane (Thompson) Stouffer, and is survived by his daughter, Carol (Thompson) Trueblood, and sons David, Mark, Bruce and Kevin, his brothers Morris and Harold, and sisters Erma and Lyla. He has 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Saturday May 7, 2001 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Cemetery, 17825 E. Trent Spokane, WA; a reception will follow at 12:00 noon, with a video and time for sharing at Thornhill Valley Chapel 1400 S. Pines Rd. Spokane Valley, WA
