Early morning November 20 2015 Betty went to heaven for a reunion.( 2 Corinthians 5:8 To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.) Betty had an apparent heart attack .She was home alone with her dog Cody in Spokane Washington. Betty was born August 5 1941 in Yoder Wyoming. At her request cremation has taken place, no service scheduled.
Betty was born on a small farm in Wyoming. She, her older brother Bob and sister Frances were all birthed at home not in a traditional hospital. Living on a farm in Lingle Wyoming until the age of 13. Moving to Riverton Wyoming and graduating high school in 1959. After school jobs at A&W drive-in and the local Acme theater. Living in Wyoming until the age of 22 when she moved to Spokane Washington after graduating from the University of Wyoming to become a medical technician. She was inspired to go into the medical field after open heart surgery in 1955 for a hole in her heart. She was 14 years old at the time. The procedure was one of the first in the country to be performed in Denver Colorado. They packed her in ice during the operation to slow down all her body functions. Dangerous operation at the time to save her life. Look magazine wanted to do a story on her but her Mom thought it would be to much stress during her recovery. The March of Dimes paid for the operation. Betty gave back to them generously all her career. She went on to live a healthy productive life. She retired at the early age of 55 from Sacred Heart Hospital as a medical technician.
Betty was an animal lover and gave generously to animal shelters. She preferred cats over dogs and had many cats over the years that were very well taken care of on her 30 wooded acres outside of Spokane. She did not like to travel and preferred to live a simple life on her acreage, using a wood stove for heat, chopping her own wood. Enjoying with pride all the wood she had stacked in her wood shed. She never married and lived alone. She commented she should have lived back in simpler times of the old west.
Her sudden death was a shock for everyone. She had just lost her brother Bob 9 months earlier from Grand Junction Colorado. Betty will be sorely missed by family, friends and her animals. Betty wished to have her ashes spread in the woods and not necessarily in her woods. A perfect spot will be found.
