Genevieve (Jenny) Stearns, Spokane Tribal elder passed away peacefully on 1/29/2019 at her home on the Spokane Indian Reservation in Ford, WA. She shared her life with her husband, Eugene F. Stearns since 1961. Jenny was born on December 20, 1931 in Orofino, Idaho to Louie Holt Sr. (Nez Perce Tribe) and Sue Ford (Spokane Tribe). She was a member of the Ford Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, beading, and gardening. Jenny enjoyed her part in the Salish Language revitalization. She will be remembered for taking care of business, her creativity, beautiful garden, her strength, wisdom, love, and ability to speak the truth in kindness. Jenny is survived by her husband, Eugene Stearns; 3 children, Vicki Rodriguez, Cha Abrahamson, & Jennifer Stearns-Covington; They shared 25 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; Her siblings (Holts & Fords) are from the Spokane and Nez Perce Tribe. She is preceded in death by 5 children, Hal Abrahamson, Eugene “Sweeny” Stearns, Roger Abrahamson, Jeff Stearns, and Lawrence “Shmoo” Abrahamson; parents, Sue Ford and Louie Holt Sr. The Memorial Services will be held at the Spokane Tribal Longhouse in Wellpinit, Washington—Rosary service will be held on Thursday January 31, 2019 @ 7 PM, and the Funeral service will be Friday February 1, 2019 @ 10 AM. Her final resting place will be Hubert Cemetery in Ford, Washington.
