

Herschel Lilbern Hamner born September 29, 1923, passed away peacefully in his home on October 13, 2010. Born in Roswell, NM, he completed Redlands High School in CA. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII and served on the USS Connolly DE306 with the rank Boatswain Mate 2nd Class. After the war, he married Florence Andrews and they made their home in Spokane, WA. Together, they enjoyed square dancing, camping and a good game of Pinochle. They were members of Lincoln Heights Community Church, which he helped build. He worked as a heavy duty mechanic for the State. He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Clara Lee Hamner, his son, Kenneth Lee, and daughter, Penny Stuart. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Florence Hamner; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Jim Hitchcock; grandchildren, Dawn and Brian Anderson, Erin and Eric Jacobsen, Shawn and Maja Stuart; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 9:00am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 16, at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home 1306 N. Monroe. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 17th at 2:00 PM at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 Monroe Street in Spokane, and will be followed by graveside service at Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery.
